So with Mother's Day coming up soon in the UK (22nd March 2020 to be exact!), I thought it would be nice to create something to make for all of our wonderful women! I've pondered over different crochet accessories and designs and came up with this Love Heart basket! It's big enough to fill with treats and it works up super quickly! I've also added a crochet heart to give it that extra little bit of cuteness! You don't just have to make it for Mother's day though! It's so versatile, you could gift it for someone's birthday, wedding, valentines day (next year!), and even as a housewarming gift! You could add chocolates, sweets, bath smellies or whatever you like! Play around with different yarns to make different sized baskets or you could even double strand some yarns to create some gorgeous colour combinations. Enjoy!
The pattern below is written in UK TERMS.
You will need:
100g super chunky yarn in two colours - I've used Hayfield Bonus Super Chunky in Berry and Dark Grey.
10mm hook (Found here!)
Scissors. (Found here!)
A Darning Needle.
A Stitch Marker. (Found here! )
Abbreviations:
dc - Double Crochet
htr - Half Treble Crochet
tr - Treble Crochet
dtr - Double Treble Crochet
FPtr - Front Post Treble Crochet
BLO - Back Loops Only
YO - Yarn Over
BLO - Back Loops Only
YO - Yarn Over
ss - Slip Stitch
st(s) - Stitch(es)
Special Stitches:
dtr - YO hook twice, insert hook into stitch, YO and pull through 2 loops on hook, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through remaining 2 loops.
FPtr - YO hook, insert hook underneath first treble from previous round (see pic), YO and pull through. YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through remaining 2 loops.
For the Basket:
Round 1 - 2dc in each st (12dc)
Round 2 - *2dc, 1dc* (18dc)
Round 3 - *2dc, 1dc in next 2 sts* (24dc)
Round 4 - *2dc, 1dc in next 3 sts* (30dc)
Round 5 - In BLO, 1dc in each st.
Round 6 - Ch2. 1tr in each st. Join to the top of ch2.
Round 7 - Ch 2. *1FPtr next st, 1tr in next st.* Rep until last st. 1FPtr in last st.. Join with a ss to top of ch 2.
Round 8 - 11 - Repeat round 7.
Round 12 - Ch 1. 1 htr in each st all the was around.
Round 13-14 - Rep row 12.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
For the Heart:
Start by making a magic ring. In the centre of the ring, crochet as follows:
Ch 3, 3dtr, 3tr, ch1, 1dtr, ch1, 3tr, 3dtr, ch3. Ss to centre.
Fasten off with a long tail. Use tail to attach to basket.
And that's it! You're all finished! Fill your beautiful love heart basket with lots of treats to make someone smile!
