For some people, crochet is a little side hobby. For others, it’s a huge part of their life. Whatever your reason, crocheting everyday is a great way to unwind and relax. Crocheting for even 10 minutes a day can be really beneficial and here’s why…

It can help you relax.

Ok so this one might seem obvious, but it’s true! When you’ve had a really stressful day and you need 10 minutes to rest, pick up your crochet and concentrate on that. It can help distract you and put you in a happy place that will help you forget about everything else. I find using slightly more challenging patterns are great for this! Steer clear of patterns that are repetitive, as I find it can make your mind wander a bit.

It can make you feel better.

Sometimes, we have bad days. The days where nothing is going right and you just want to curl up in bed and cry. But instead, focus your mind on a nice easy crochet project. Doing something you truly love is a great way to release all those magical chemicals in your body that make you happy! Bonus points if you eat a bar of chocolate (or something sweet) whilst you do it!

It can help you sleep.

Often I find that, when I’m laying in bed at night and I haven’t crocheted all day, I struggle to fall asleep. So, I whip my hook out and do a few rows of what I like to call my ‘bedtime blanket’. This is a blanket that I only focus on when I can’t sleep and I need something to help close my mind off before I shut my eyes. You can choose any pattern, such as a simple granny square, c2c (corner to corner) or even just a double crochet stitch blanket (I've provided a little pattern below!). Just make sure it doesn’t require any hard stitches or complicated patterns! It's best to avoid amigurumi!

It can help you concentrate.

Ever stuck doing something non crochet related that needs your full attention and find that after about 20 minutes, you lose all motivation and concentration to do something? Pick up your crochet for a little bit whilst you have a little break. Tune your mind into something completely different and refresh yourself before going back to the previous task. Try and stick to short, easy patterns that you can complete quickly. This ensures you don’t spend too much time avoiding your main task!

Hopefully these little tips above and have given you a few ideas as to why you should crochet, but I’d love to hear from you. Why do you crochet everyday? Or why DON’T you? Pop your comments below and go pick up that crochet hook!

Happy Making!
